Stephen J. Doherty, Sr. of Plymouth passed away at Oak Hill Health Care in Middleborough on July 3, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Lee) Doherty; the loving father of Stephen Doherty, Jr. and his wife Jill of Marion, Lynda McMahon and her husband Peter of Plymouth, and Joseph Ariel and his wife Emily of Larkesville, PA. He is survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Susan Murphy and Peter Doherty.
Stephen was born on April 2, 1949, in Cambridge. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1967. He was an Electronic Engineer and traveled the country for business. He loved to be on the ocean sailing. Stephen will always be remembered for his heroism when he encountered a man at Jenny Gristmill Pond in Plymouth who was clearly experiencing a medical condition when the man toppled over face-first into the pond's murky waters. Stephen quickly sprung to action and pulled the man from the muddy water.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 150 Court Street, Plymouth. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Plymouth Mobile Estate Clubhouse, 213 Pilgrim Trail Road, Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Stephen's memory be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
