Stephen M. Bennett Sr. of Bourne, died peacefully on Sunday September 4th with his family by his side at Toby Hospital in Wareham. He is the beloved husband of 38 years to Laura J. (Mearls) Bennett. Stephen was born in Boston, MA on November 17,1960. He is the son of the late Veronica (Brennen) Bennett, his Dad Wayne Bennett of Plymouth, his father the late Joseph Bennett, and his wife Margaret Bennett of Quincy. Educated at Boston English High. Stephen dedicated the majority of his life to the spirit of law enforcement. He spent his early days as a member of Boston's Special Police, and most recently as a store detective - working closely with the Wareham Police Department. As a dedicated sports fan, he witnessed some of Boston's greatest sports moments alongside his family. He was a proud descendant of Native Americans, and would often relax to the sounds of Native American flute music at candlelight. This has been passed down from his mother, to his children, and now to his grandchildren. Steve also enjoyed many musical artists from the Beatles to the Bee Gees. Steve was a handyman/Superman who could teach himself to fix or build anything. Whether it was cars, carpentry, or electrical, Steve could do it all. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed his time being with his family. He was someone who truly cared and made everyone feel welcome. Steve had the biggest heart and will be greatly missed by all.
Steve is survived by: his wife Laura, his children- Stephen Bennett JR of Bourne, Andrew Bennett of Kingston, James Bennett of Bourne, Michelle Gibson and her husband Tommy of Plymouth. He is also survived by his brothers: Kevin Bennett of Wareham, Joseph Bennett of Quincy, and his sisters- Lisa Deagle of Taunton, Cheryl Centeio of Plymouth, and Tracy Webb of Weymouth. He leaves five grandchildren, the centers of his universe: Chloe, Erin, John, Molly, and Kiley.
Visiting hours in the Cartmell- Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home 373 Court St. North Plymouth (Near Cordage Park) on Monday September 12th from 4- 7pm. Graveside service on Tuesday September 13th at 10:00 am at Vine Hills Cemetery 102 Samoset St. Plymouth.
