Stanley worked for years as captain of one of the Captain John boats touring out of Plymouth Harbor. He also worked for Burke Distribution of Randolph as a warehouse supervisor.
Stanley was born in Plymouth and considered himself a Plymouthian. He loved to travel and was a connoisseur of good food. He was an avid student of history, he spent many hours researching the Civil War and following archeological studies. Stanley was an avid actor who performed in many plays “treading the boards” with the Bay Players of Norwell, MA and other acting groups in the area.
Stanley leaves his wife of 29 years, Gail Holloway Burgess; his son, Stanley Lee Burgess of Kingston; his three daughters, Patti Gunnarson of Marshfield, Nancy Pratt of Plymouth and Susan Stevenson of Marlborough. He was also the father of the late Christine Sampson of Plymouth. He leaves eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. His compassionate soul and sense of humor will be missed.
A period of visitation will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm. The burial will take place at Vine Hills Cemetery, Samoset St., Plymouth.
