Rose was born on February 23, 1930 in Plymouth to the late Joao de Sousa and Ana (Almeida) Varao. She was born in the United States but was raised in St. Miguel, Azores. She returned to the United States at the age of 21 after her marriage to Arthur. Eleven years ago she moved to West Warwick to be with her daughter, Dolores. Rose was a seamstress for thirty-two years at the Ellis Curtain Factory in Plymouth. She was an avid baker and enjoyed cooking for extended family, hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for many years. She loved sewing and made everything from clothes to curtains. She lovingly created beautiful crocheted heirlooms and tatted lace pieces with intricate designs for family and friends. She loved her family beyond measure and would move mountains to help anyone. Rose and Arthur were devout parishioners of St. Mary’s Church in Plymouth. She will be dearly missed by all of those who loved her.
