Richard L. Detrani, Sr. of Plymouth passed away at Benchmark Senior Living at Plymouth Crossing on March 4, 2023, at the age of ninety-one. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline G. (Correa) Detrani; the loving father of Richard L. Detrani, Jr. and Joseph L. Detrani of Plymouth; grandfather of Joseph R. Detrani and his wife Jamie of Plymouth, Meagan Elam and her husband Christopher of Melrose, and Brian Detrani and his fiancé Sharon Hochanadel of Sharon; great-grandfather of Hunter, AJ, Madison, Jessy, Joey, Aidan, and Logan. He was the brother of Eugene Rasori of Georgia.
Richard was born on August 29, 1931, in Plymouth to the late Jenny (Detrani) Whitten. On his 18th birthday, Richard enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served our country from 1949 to 1969. During his twenty years of active duty, he served as an Armored Vehicle Crewman and Commander and as a Combat Engineer Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. He was stationed in Germany, Missouri, Korea, Hawaii, and Vietnam. He received the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and Overseas Service Bar. After Richard retired from the Army, he worked for the Plymouth Water Department where he eventually became the foreman. He was an avid hunter, and boater and enjoyed fishing.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10:15 am at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers donations in Richards's memory may be made to Beacon Hospice Care, 32 Resnik Road, Suite 3, Plymouth, MA 02360.
