Paul S. F. Hastings, age 75 years, died peacefully at his home on Friday, August 12, 2022 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Annmarie (MacSwain) Hastings, and the son of the late George and Edith (Lyons) Newton. Born in Boston on March 26, 1947, he worked as a produce clerk for many years, starting his career at Capitol Supermarkets and retiring from Stop and Shop after over thirty years of service. Paul was a quiet man with a quick wit who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Quite the handyman, he enjoyed tinkering around and fixing things. Paul was always up for a game of cribbage and enjoyed crushing his opponents. He loved to travel and was truly a geography whizz. He was hardworking and enjoyed holidays with family, especially Thanksgiving which he hosted for fifty years at his home in Plymouth. He was an absolute sports fanatic and loved his New England teams, as well as the original six in hockey, but his favorite teams were the ones his daughters and grandkids played on. When you met Paul, you noticed his coif with sideburns that rivaled those of Elvis. His grandsons are hoping that gene was passed down to them.
Paul was predeceased by his loving wife Annmarie in 2003 and his daughter Annie in 2021. He will be forever missed by his two daughters, Dawnmarie K. Hastings-Ely and her husband Joe of Plympton, and Jean Trainor and her husband Jack of Plymouth, and his grandchildren Marisa Hastings and John and Jake Trainor. He was the brother of Joanne, Linda, Michael, Norman, and Candace and his late beloved sister Karen. He also has many nieces and nephews that he adored. Paul leaves behind much love from the Burkhead, Dermady, Duggan, Fox, Hastings, Lenane, MacSwain, Murray, Shepherd and Schuckman families.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 9:30AM at DAVIS LIFE CELEBRATION FUNERAL HOME, 373 Court Street, NORTH PLYMOUTH, followed by a funeral mass at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 126 South Meadow Rd., Plymouth at 10:30AM. Interment will be in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth. Visitation with the Hastings family will be on Tuesday from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Plymouth MA 02360.
