Obituaries
Paul Anthony Given, 85 years old, of Plymouth, MA passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy A. Given of 60 years. Paul was born and raised in Cranston, RI. He was the son of the late James and Loretta Given. As a young man, he was a dedicated Boy Scout who achieved Eagle Scout status. After graduating from High School, Paul enlisted in the Navy. He then pursued a college degree at Bryant University. Upon graduation, he embarked on a 38 year career at General Motors where he was very successful climbing the corporate ladder.
Paul married Nancy Faria of New Bedford, MA on August 26, 1961 in Westport MA. They started their life together on Cape Cod and shortly after moved to Seekonk, MA where they raised their 4 children for 20 + years. Upon retirement, Paul and Nancy, moved back to their favorite place, Cape Cod, where they enjoyed the beaches, boating, golfing and many family gatherings.
Paul prided himself as a dedicated family man and provided guidance and support to his children throughout the years. In the early days he was a member of the Seekonk Knights of Columbus where he made many lasting friendships, as well as, receiving the honor of Grand Knight. He was also an active parishioner of Mt. Carmel Church. During Paul's retirement his passion was to take his wife Nancy on many cruise ships around the world and in his free time he volunteered his services at Cape Cod Community College giving back to the community his financial expertise.
He is survived by his son Paul A. Given, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Seekonk MA, daughters Mary-Elizabeth Matrone and her husband John of Urbana MD, Pamela Given Keep of Plymouth MA and Susan Goodrich and her husband Timothy Adams of Falmouth MA. Paul also leaves behind his grandchildren, Andrew Given and his wife Isabel, Lindsey Given, Joseph Given, Michael Matrone and his wife Taylor, Jeffrey Matrone and his fiancé Holly Arthur, James Keep, Patrick Keep, Hannah Given, Emma Adams & Timmy Adams.
Paul was also blessed with a newly born great grandson, Jaxon Matrone. Paul is predeceased by his siblings, Philip, James Leo and Barbara. In addition, Paul is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in Rhode Island. Visiting hours will take place at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd. Plymouth, on Tuesday, June 6 th between the hours of 9:00 – 10:30 am. A mass will immediately follow at St. Bonaventure, 801 State Road, Plymouth. The burial service will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, R.I.
