Michael J. Morris, Sr., age 79, of Plymouth, passed away on Sunday, September 25th, at the BID Hospital in Plymouth. Cherished husband, father, grandfather, he is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Mary Ellen (Fernekees) Morris. Loving father of Michael J. Morris, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Sterling VA, Marie S. Vitale and her husband Anthony of Carver, Melanie Spenard and her husband Aaron of Carver and the late Meghan Morris.
Precious Papa of 6 grandchildren who were his whole world, Zachary, Benjamin, Nicholas, Jordan, Harley, and Heather.
Also survived by two brothers, Rev. John S. Morris, Jr, and twin brother Robert F. Morris. He is predeceased by siblings James Morris, Thomas Morris, and Mary Ellis. He is also survived by his best friend of 50 years Brian Alosi and family, many nieces, nephews, family, and countless friends.
Michael was born in Cambridge on December 20, 1942, son of the late John S. Sr. and Mary G. (Murphy) Morris, as well as step mother Jane T. (Killoran) Morris. He attended Lynn Classical High School and Northeastern University. Michael lived in Lynn and Tewksbury before moving to Plymouth in 1971. He worked for GE in Lynn, and L Knife and Sons in Kingston, as well as owning and operating the Log Cabin Restaurant in Middleboro from 1982-1991.
Michael was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Kateri Parish, Plymouth, where he prayed daily rosary and volunteered countless hours. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as past president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He loved bowling, cribbage, and was a Boston Red Sox fanatic.
A visitation will be held at St. Kateri Parish, 126 South Meadow Rd. Plymouth, on Saturday, October 1st, from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:00 pm. Burial at Vine Hills Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Michael’s memory may be made to the Retired Priests Fund (Archdiocese of Boston) 66 Brooks Drive, Braintree, MA 02184.
