Mary Elena Wirzburger (nee Guidoboni), 81, of Medford, NJ, passed away unexpectedly Saturday,
February 4, 2023.
Born in Plymouth, MA, she graduated from Plymouth High School and received her Bachelor's
degree in Chemistry from Emmanuel College. Mary was a self-proclaimed "domestic engineer" and
devoted Navy Officer's wife. She was a lifelong scout, starting in her youth and expanded her
involvement in Girl and Boy Scouts, becoming a leader and trainer, and later introducing scouting to
her children. Through the years, she has guided dozens of scouts to achieve the highest ranks. As
a CCD teacher for over 2 decades, she helped form the foundation of Catholic teachings to
countless youth. A lover of the arts since listening to Italian operas with her father, she instilled the
love of music in her children. In support of their talents, she was a Band Parent at Lenape HS for 14
years, famously known as an M&M Mom.
Later in life, she obtained certification as a Master Gardner through Rutgers Cooperative Extension.
While not chasing her grandchildren around, Mary enjoyed volunteering at a local Donation Garden,
helping to provide 100s of pounds of food to the local community. She pursued many interests until
her death, including card making, stamping, and miniatures. Despite her vast interests, what defined her the most was her devotion as a Mother, Nonna, and friend.
Daughter of the late Aroldo and Agostina (nee Balboni) Guidoboni; she was predeceased by her
loving husband of 46 years, CDR Allen Henry Wirzburger; and survived by her children and their
spouses, Thomas Wirzburger (Kellyanne), Heidi Curtis, John Wirzburger (Melissa), Joseph
Wirzburger (Erin), and Elena Robinson (Jessi); ten grandchildren, Nicole and Brandon Wirzburger,
Katherine, Justin and Tyler Curtis, Evan and Emily Wirzburger, Lillian and Maxim Wirzburger, and
Henry Robinson; and one nephew, Michael Wirzburger.
A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 9 am to 10 am at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 150 Court Street, Plymouth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated following the visitation at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church, 313 Court Street, Plymouth. The interment will immediately follow the Mass at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne. At Mary's request, please wear something colorful to her services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary's memory to St. Mary's Church, 313 Court St.,
Plymouth, MA 02360; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
