Mary Wolfs Irving, 96, of Plymouth, MA, formerly of Berkeley Heights, Cranford and Mountainside NJ, died on January 28, 2023 at Beth Israel Deaconess hospital in Plymouth.
All services will be private.
Mary was born on May 10, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Wilfred H. Wolfs and Hilda (Platt) Wolfs. She was a 1944 graduate of Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in New Jersey and attended Skidmore College in New York for two years. She lived in New Jersey until moving to her childhood summer home in Manomet in 1989.
Mary was an avid artisan and craftsperson, making children’s clothes, Irish and Scandinavian sweaters, mittens, hats, gloves, embroidery, needlepoint and cut and pierce lampshades throughout her life. She was a volunteer knitter at Plimoth Plantation for several years and made numerous tiny hats for newborn babies and preemies.
She was also the loving and beloved wife of 61 years to her high school sweetheart, Donald F. Irving, and shared with him five children including Donald F. Irving III and his wife Regine of Quebec, Canada, John Wolfs Irving and wife Pamela of Warren, NJ, Cynthia McCartin and husband John of Baltimore, MD, Dale Irving and wife Rosemary of Plymouth, MA and Helen Capozzelli of Conroe, TX. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Mary was never one for cut flowers - she loved them alive and growing. So, if you were thinking of sending something, thank you, but please don't - just plant something flowering this spring and think of her.
