Kenneth Thompson Lyons passed away peacefully on February 20th in Boston, Massachusetts. He was 80. Son of the late James T. Jr. and Ada E. Lyons (nee Thompson) of Boston, Ken attended Boston Latin and Boston English High Schools, followed by receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Bridgewater State College, and a Master's degree in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
Ken began his career as an educator, passing his extensive knowledge of and passion for Chemistry and Physics onto his high school students in Guilford, CT, Scituate, MA, and eventually his home of Plymouth, MA. He made a career change in his late 30s to become a Systems Engineer for a private company SIE and worked for the US Department of Defense. He took great pride in taking his wife and four sons on trips all around the United States as part of his new career; especially his favorite places in White Sands, New Mexico, and all the islands of Hawaii.
Ken was born in Boston, grew up in Dorchester and Mattapan, and traveled all around the country for his engineering career, but his favorite place in the world was at home in Plymouth, MA, and specifically on his boat, The Tradewinds, in Plymouth Harbor. Whether taking his wife out on a cruise, taking his sons out on a fishing excursion, or just relaxing on his own, he loved being out on the ocean and at the wheel of the Tradewinds.
Ken married his wife Linda Lyons (nee Pascazi) of Yonkers, NY in August of 1969, a loving marriage of over 53 years. They met and fell in love in the town of Brewster, NY when the stars aligned and brought their two families from hundreds of miles apart together onto one street: Rocco Drive. Together Ken and Linda made a loving family and a loving home for their sons, their extended family, and their grandchildren. They spent the youngest years of their marriage taking their sons to science fairs, plays and concerts, and to countless sporting events. They spent the latest years of their marriage taking their grandchildren to zoos, to the waterfront and beaches in Plymouth, and to countless sporting events.
Ken, beloved Papa Lyons to grandchildren Emma, Sophie, Hunter and Olivia, was never happier than when spending time working in his garden, growing vegetables with his grandchildren, or taking them all around town and onto the Tradewinds to spoil them as much as he could.
Ken loved and was loved by all his family and friends and is survived by his wife Linda, his son Kenneth S. Lyons of Bellingham, MA, his son Michael T. and daughter-in-law Heather Lyons of Plymouth, MA, his son James E. and daughter-in-law Danielle Lyons of Plymouth, MA, and his son Mark J. and daughter-in-law Jennifer Lyons of Hanover, MA. He is also survived by his brother James T. III and sister-in-law Gail Lyons of Harwich, MA, his sister Nancy Bogue and brother-in-law Marc Bogue of Wellesley, MA, as well as his Sheehan and Lyons niece and nephews, and his Pascazi, Saracino, and Rossi in-laws and nephews and his close childhood friends Ray, Joe, Tony, Jim, and Stanley.
