Joseph G. DeCosta of Plymouth died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Saturday September 17th. He is the beloved husband of Caitlin A. (Conway) DeCosta and loving father of their young daughter Mary. He is predeceased by his first wife Lorraine DeCosta and survived by their children; son Anthony, and his wife Lynda of Wilmot, NH and daughter, Darlene and her husband Myles of Plymouth.
Joe was born on September 26, 1946 to the late Joseph G and Edith (Ramsey) DeCosta in Boston, MA. After graduating from High School, he went on to serve his country in the US Marines during the Vietnam War. He owned a VW service center for a short time before becoming a plumbing apprentice which led to a career as a Master Plumber. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and riding his motorcycle. In his later years he was semi-retired but enjoyed working at Rahn’s motorcycle engineering in Abington. He also continued with part time plumbing work alongside close friend Fred Miller. He was involved with the Plymouth Moose lodge and especially enjoyed family time, traveling across country in their motor home.
Joe was very outgoing, loved to have fun, and a friend to all, even strangers were friends he hadn’t gotten to know yet. He was very affectionate and known for hugs instead of handshakes and a “luv ya” in place of “good bye”.
He is also survived by stepchildren John Toomey, Stephanie Toomey and Eddie Conway. He was the brother of the late Susan Kelly, survived by brother-in-law Doug Kelly. Grandfather of Nicholas Parsons, Zachary Parsons, Christian DeCosta, Kathleen DeCosta ,Allyson Webb., Helena Toomey and Henry O’Neil. And fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Community Church in Plymouth on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 3 p.m.
