Obituaries
Joseph Arthur Cavallo of Plymouth, formerly of Cape Cod and Newton, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 20, 2020, at the age of eighty-seven. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Gorgone) Cavallo. He was the loving father of Linda MacDonald and her husband John “Jack” of Plymouth, Arthur Cavallo and his wife Tracy of Plymouth, Diane Bernard and her husband Robert of Florida, and Paula Leger of Waltham and her late husband Claude. He was the cherished “Papa” of Kerry, Kristen, Colleen, Natalie, Alyssa, Nicholas, Bella, Anna, Nicolas, and Matthew. He was the brother of Eleanor Lupo of Marlborough.
Joseph was born on October 24, 1932 in Newton to Arthur George and Vita Mary (Ferro) Cavallo. He graduated early from Newton High School to serve our country in the United States Navy during the Korean war. While in the Navy he served on the USS A.M. Sumner DD 692 as a Telegraphic Typewriter Operator. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Medal, United Nations Medal and Navy Occupation Medal. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Joseph returned to his hometown and eventually served his community for thirty-two years as a Firefighter for the City of Newton. In Joseph’s spare time and after his retirement from the fire department, he reveled in the art of Woodworking and Caning. With a shop in his basement, he specialized in furniture refinishing with many of his pieces being displayed at his home and the homes of his children’s. He made doll houses and replicas of ships. He also, enjoyed collecting, making and repairing clocks. Joseph’s greatest joy was his family whom he loved deeply.
A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth (Manomet). Followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am St. Bonaventure Parish, 803 State Road, Plymouth (Manomet). The burial will take place at 1:15 pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne.
