Obituaries
John Philip Petrella, age 74 years, of Plymouth, died Monday, January 30, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Janet (Cannata) Petrella, and the son of the late Guy and Elizabeth (Volta) Petrella. Born in East Boston on May 20, 1948. John had a lengthy career in IT, starting at the Bank of Boston where he worked for more than 20 years. He joined Iron Mountain in 2000 and retired as an IT Executive in 2014. After retirement he continued working as an IT Consultant for several years. John was extremely active throughout his life, he enjoyed playing tennis and golf, he was often joined on the court and course by long-time friends. He was an avid photographer, and in his younger years owned a studio in Manchester, New Hampshire. He felt lucky to have had the opportunity to travel extensively for work. He made incredible friendships wherever he went, most notably in India. John and Janet enjoyed world-wide travel and always invited family to accompany them for once in a lifetime adventures. He was a wonderful cook and was known as the “family chef”.
John was happiest being a husband, dad, and Papa. He was the heart of the family, creative, caring, and gentle. To know him, was to love him.
Besides his beloved wife Janet of fifty-two years, John will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Julie Ledwak and her husband Kenny of Duxbury and Christine Sapra and her husband Surya of Duxbury, two sisters, Carol Guarente and her husband Eddy of Billerica and Lois Albanese and her husband Gerry of Revere. He also leaves his loving grandchildren Nelly, Sadie, Siena and Rya, and his two nephews Christopher Cannata and his wife Courtney of Medfield and Nick Guarente of Billerica. He was the brother-in-law of Charlie Cannata and his wife Jackie of Dorchester, Cynthia Felson and her partner Jeff Silverstein of Dayton, Ohio, Jeanne Cannata and her spouse Cate Arnold of West Roxbury and Susan Cannata and her partner Jesse Peters of Salem, Oregon.
A memorial visitation will be held in the CARTMELL-DAVIS LIFE CELEBRATION & FUNERAL HOME, 619 State Road, Plymouth (Manomet) on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 4:00PM – 7:00PM.
