John Benjamin Heath, age 80, died on January 24, 2012 at the Jordan Hospital following a long illness. He was the devoted husband for 56 years to Shirley Ann (Mango) Heath of Plymouth. Born in Plymouth, MA on July 10, 1931, John was a son of the late John S. and Antoinette (Pelletier) Heath. He was educated in the Plymouth school system. Following his high school education, Mr. Heath entered into the US Coast Guard, where he proudly served for over twenty years before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer BMC. He was recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the USCG Good Conduct Award. Following his military retirement, Mr. Heath went to work for the US Postal Service, where he served an additional twenty years in service. He was a member of the Plymouth Rod and Gun Club, the American Legion Post 40, and the National Letter Carriers Assn. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as traveling with his beloved wife Shirley. John was a mild mannered gentleman and will be truly missed by the many lives he touched. Besides leaving his wife Shirley, he was the loving father of John Jr. and his wife Alana of Plymouth, Danny and his wife Debra Rule Heath of Hanson, Frankie of Carver and Gary of Plymouth. He was the beloved brother of William "Billy" Heath of Harwich, MA, James "Jimmy" Heath of Port St. Lucie, FL, Sandy Peck of Plymouth, Mary Lou Quevedo of Tamarac, FL. and the late Paulie Sanna. He was the cherished grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 3. The funeral will take place on Monday morning, January 30th at 10:15 from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St.Mary's Church in Plymouth at 11:00 a.m. Friends are welcome in celebration of his life to the visitation at Cartmell Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
