Obituaries
Joel Dorian Sanders, 64, of Plymouth, MA, after a heroic battle with brain cancer, died on November 13, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Kristen Maddocks Sanders.
Joel was born in Buffalo, NY on January 3, 1958, son of the late Dorian Hall Sanders and Anita (Messecar) Sanders. Joel was raised in Sudbury, MA and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School and the University of Maine at Orono with a BS in Business. He worked for his entire career in the Group Insurance industry starting out with Unionmutual (Unum) and then with Phoenix Home Life, GE, Genworth and finally with Sun Life Financial until he took early retirement in 2013. He mentored many Group Sales reps and kept in touch with many of them. He was well respected and well loved.
Joel and Kristen married in 1981 and moved many times over the years but spent most of their married life in Bryn Mawr, PA where they raised their two children, Adam and Kelly.
Joel loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved hiking, especially with his dog. He enjoyed planning trips for his entire family and extended family and was fondly known as Mr. Fun. He loved his trips to his hunting camp in Tioga, PA each year. He also loved his many trips to his place in Maine whenever he and Kris had the urge to get away .Joel was larger than life. His boundless generosity, compassion, sense of humor and joy of living were just some of his many wonderful qualities. Joel was well known for his quick wit and an uncanny ability to find the humor in any situation. With his sage wisdom, Joel would make great analogies about all of life’s circumstances. All these qualities combined into Joel’s best known talent for epic storytelling.
Joel was a long time member of Newtown Square Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania and continued his membership even after moving to Massachusetts.
Joel is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kristen, his son Adam Sanders and his wife Rebecca Guzman of Newtown Square, PA, and his daughter Kelly Brown and her husband Michael of Havertown, PA. He was the proud grandfather (BeePee) of Jack and Miles Sanders and Fiona Brown. Joel is also survived by his brother, Kihm Sanders of Boxborough, MA. He is survived by many in laws that loved him as a son/brother and many loving nieces and nephew.
Visiting hours in the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home 619 State Rd. Plymouth (Manomet) on Friday November 18th from 10 am - 12 pm. Funeral Service will follow at 12 noon. Burial will take place at a later date in Millinocket Cemetery in Millinocket , Maine.
