Obituaries
Joel E. Fairhurst Sr., age 71 years, of Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Beth Israel – Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was the beloved husband of Denise (Brzoski) Fairhurst, and the son of the late Chesley and Wilhelmina (Platt) Fairhurst Sr. Born in Boston, Joel was a graduate of Hingham High School. He furthered his education at a nightly trade school becoming a talented sheet metal worker, and shortly after began his career with the Local #17 Union. He later continued his career with the MBTA working at the Everett Main Repair Facility, retiring in 2015. Joel along with his wife, children and grandchildren enjoyed many years of camping together at Ellis Haven Campground in Plymouth where they still enjoy their summers. He had a great love for riding his Harley-Davidson, fishing Plymouth Bay and driving his truck out on Race Point beach. In his younger days, Joel enjoyed spending time with his model train club, was an avid 4x4 enthusiast and still owned his favorite of his many vehicles, his 1973 Jeep CJ5.
Besides his loving wife Denise with whom he was married to for 45 years, Joel will be forever missed by his three sons, Joel Fairhurst Jr. and his wife Katie of Braintree, John Fairhurst of Cold Springs, Colorado and Jason Fairhurst and his wife Lindsay of Plymouth, his grandchildren or as he called them, “his babies”, Sierra, J, Kierra, Mia, Taelyn, Jase, Jaden and Jaxen, and his siblings, Chesley Fairhurst, Russell Fairhurst, Fern Burdett, Diane Bassett, Wanda Hubbard, and Laura Sneed. He was the brother of the late Dougie, Norman, Joan, Donald and Emily Fairhurst.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Reception Hall at Ellis Haven Campground, 531 Federal Furnace Rd., Plymouth on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 1:00PM – 4:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Research Children’s Hospital, 501 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
