Joan Lingard Dugas of Plymouth, MA, formerly of Easton, MA passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on December 15, 2022 at the age of 86. Joan was predeceased by her mother Ellen K. Lingard of Manchester CT, brother, Granville “Ted” Lingard of Southport ME, and her life partner Norman Tibbetts formerly of Easton, MA. She is survived by her four loving children Phil Dugas of Lava Hot Springs, ID, Paul Dugas (Robin) of Summerville SC, Mark Dugas (Caroline) of Saratoga Springs, NY, Renee Romanowski (Joe) of N Falmouth MA, and grandchildren Brennan, Josh, Shanna, Jackie, Liz, Sean, Rienne, Mitchell and Joey, along with her new great grandchild, Aurora. She is also survived by her very close and loving sister Donna Kaufman of Summerfield FL.
Joan was class president at Mary Manse College, the same college from which her mother Ellen Lingard graduated in 1928. She later transferred to Boston College and graduated with a degree in English. An avid reader and eternal student, Joan later earned her Master’s degree in English and became a published poet. Joan loved the Arts and greatly enjoyed her affiliations with Plymouth’s Tidepool Poets as well as philosophy and poetry clubs. Joan dedicated much of her free time to her religion, gardening and traveling the world. Above all, Joan’s favorite activity was enjoying her children and grandchildren. Joan was instrumental in preserving 60 consecutive years of Lingard Family Reunions, dating back to 1962. The family who called her Mom and Nana deeply loved and adored her. Their stories are a beautiful testament to the amazing Mother and Grandmother she was. Her many close friends also enjoyed the light she carried within her generous and warm spirit. Her love now flows to each person she has touched and her presence remains in each of our hearts.
Visiting hours and memorial service will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd, Plymouth, MA on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Burial service will occur the next day, December 22, at the North Falmouth Cemetery behind the Congregational Church located at 155 Old Main Rd at 10:00 AM.
