Jill Anne Daley Katz, 50, of Plymouth, MA, passed away after a brief, heart-related illness. Jill was the beloved mother of Spencer Joseph Daley Katz, cherished daughter of David and Terry Katz, and the loving sister of Annie Katz and her husband Michael Haseley. She was the daughter of the late Herschel Daley, granddaughter of the late Richard and Mary Corthell and the late Joseph and Anna Katz. She also leaves her devoted Aunt Nelia (Nini) Anderson, Aunt Laura Corthell and Uncle Richard Corthell along with many cousins and friends. She was also the niece of the late Rebecca Corthell Kastner. Jill will always be lovingly remembered for her beautiful smile that could light up a room, her infectious laugh and her kind, caring heart.
Jill was born on April 18, 1972 in Portland, ME and grew up in Carver, MA. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Kingston, MA in 1990 and followed in the footsteps of her aunts to California, attending the University of San Francisco. Jill ultimately returned east and became an officer of the court in Plymouth County. Jill cultivated a lifelong investment in caring for people’s physical and mental health and was a popular yoga instructor in Plymouth after becoming certified at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in western MA. Later she was trained in massage therapy at Spa Tech in Plymouth, and started a private wellness practice.
In her career and her personal life, Jill lived on her own unique, authentic terms. She loved vintage things including cars, clothes and all things Marilyn Monroe, which collectively inspired her emblematic style and free spirit. It was not unusual to see Jill years ago, driving her 1966 Cadillac convertible through Plymouth with her son Spencer and four-legged friends Phoebe, Eggplant and Lacy all in the back. Jill led her life with deep empathy and kindness, especially for people who suffered from mental health challenges that she knew so well. Her love of animals, especially those that needed homes or just a place to stay, was an inspiration to many. More than anything, Jill loved her son, Spencer, was so proud to be his mother and cared deeply and selflessly for his happiness.
A private graveside service was held at the Vine Hills Cemetery, in the Jewish Faith that Jill cared about so much. In lieu of flowers, Jill's family would appreciate donations in her name to be made to the following organizations: The Plymouth Animal Shelter, 2199 State Road, Plymouth, MA 02360 or NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) P.O. Box 1398, 111 Snow Road, Marshfield, MA 02050. Thank you for these remembrances in honor of our beautiful daughter.
