Jean (Douglas) Dobbrow, 89, of Braintree passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 16. Jean was married to the late William (Bill) Dobbrow of Greenfield, MA. Born in Plymouth, MA, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Agnes (Olson) Douglas. Jean is survived by her five children, Christopher Dobbrow and his wife Allison of Half Moon Bay, CA, Wendy Shea and her husband Peter of Braintree, MA, Mary Fouhy and her husband Mark of Brewster, MA, Gael Cantlin of Woodstock, VT, Barbara Bailey and her husband Steven of Braintree, her nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, the lights of her life. Jean is also survived by her brother James Douglas of Georgia and her sister Virginia 'Ginny' Costa of Maine and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her bothers Donald, Eldon and Paul and her sisters Barbara Bongiovanni and Shirley Bauer.
Jean grew up with her seven siblings on Long Pond, where she enjoyed exploring in the woods, being in nature, swimming during the summer and skating in the winter. She attended Plymouth public schools, worked as an operator at the Telephone Company and also as a nanny. Jean met her husband Bill on Plymouth Beach in August 1954 and the love story began. They raised five children together, with the primary residence in Greenfield and summers spent on Priscilla Beach in Plymouth. Jean had many joys and talents including sewing, knitting, making Swedish coffee bread during the holidays, bird watching, recording weather trends and traveling with her husband to Bermuda. She was an avid reader, evident by her ability to engage in conversation on any topic. Jean was a life-long swimmer and had the voice of a song bird. She was a devoted wife and mother, and family was at the center of her life. Jean had a never-ending capacity to care for people. Her kindness and gentle nature are the legacy she has left with her children, her grandchildren and her greatgrandchildren.
As per Jean's wishes, there will not be a service and her family requests that in lieu of flowers, please donate in her honor to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice (https://www.nvna.org), the Wildlands Trust (https://wildlandstrust.org) or the Parkinson's Foundation (https://www.parkinson.org).
