James V. Darigan, Sr. was welcomed home on October 22, 2022
Jim was born on May 16, 1948, to Francis J and Catherine (Slattery) Darigan, where he joined brother, Frank and sister, Kathleen at the family home in Providence, Rhode Island.
Jim attended the Tyler School, LaSalle Academy and Rhode Island Junior College. After graduation he worked for the State of Rhode Island, Providence College and Service Master, eventually finding a home at Narragansett Electric.
On a bus tour of Quebec in 1980 he met Prudence Young. They married on November 6, 1982, and established a residence in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
In January 1985, James, Jr. was born, completing the family.
Jim enjoyed playing basketball with Jay, coaching his town baseball team and attending as many games as his schedule allowed. This unique schedule also allowed him to take on untraditional roles such as a lunch mom at Holy Family School.
Retirement from the electric company, now known as National Grid in 2022, gave Jim an opportunity to diversify his activities. He went to work at Shaw’s supermarket in the deli and produce department, was a frequent participant at daily Mass at St. Bonaventure’s church and the enjoyed the view from his front window, particularly of his bird feeder and the annual visit of the turkeys. He also indulged in sports and paranormal programs on TV and anything related to Elvis.
Beside his wife and son, Jim is survived by his brother, Francis Darigan and wife Hope of Jamestown, and sister Kathleen Darigan, of Warwick; brothers-in- law, Thomas Young of Rockland, John Young, and his wife Carolyn of Plymouth.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Melissa Darigan and husband Mark Male, John Darigan, Michael Darigan and Christopher Darigan and his wife Jessica, all of Rhode Island; Denise Nilosek and husband Chuck, John Young and wife Stacie and Kristin Young of southeastern Massachusetts, many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friend Charles Healey. Sister-in-law Ellen Young of Rockland and close friend Frank Smith predeceased him.
The family would like to thank the medical team that has supported him since 2016, Drs. Mead Northrop, Virginia Litle, Gregory Grillone and very recently Young Kim, and Florian Koci. Particular thanks is due to Lincare which supplied his oxygen for the past two years, especially John who on several occasions hand carried his supplies from the intersection when the road was blocked due to the weather.
Visiting hours in the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home 619 State Rd. Plymouth (Manomet) on Friday October 28th from 4-7 pm. On Saturday October 29th a period on Visitation will be held at St. Bonaventure Church 801 State Rd. Manomet from 10 till 11:00 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
