Irma A. Williams
February 19, 1927 - January 6, 2021
On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, Irma (Allen) Williams, formally of Hyannis, passed away peacefully at the Royal Megansett Nursing Home in North Falmouth. She was the beloved wife of 71 years to the late Stuart Allyn Williams, who passed away in 2018. Irma was born in Edgartown, Massachusetts on February 19, 1927, daughter of the late Roger and Adella (Norton) Allen, Irma was brought over to the Cape Cod mainland in her baby basket where she lived with her family in Hyannis. There she grew up and went to school, graduating from Barnstable High School. She married Stuart (Dewey) at the Federated Church on Main Street, Hyannis in 1947, after he returned from WW II. Soon thereafter they bought property and built the house they would live in for 30(?) years.
Irma worked many years for her Sister Janet, as a Title Searcher at the Registry of Deeds in Barnstable. Later she went out on her own and stayed very busy. While the children were growing up, she was always at the boy’s sporting events. She would cut up oranges for the soccer team to have at half time. She wouldn’t miss a single hockey game whether home or away. In fact, one year, at the annual Barnstable High School Sports Awards Banquet she received the Best Fan Award for her steadfast attendance and support for BHS Sports. She was very proud of that.
In the summers Irma enjoyed cooking on the grill. On Saturdays she would take the Bluefish we caught that morning, wrap it in foil with vegetables and butter for our dinner. Next morning, we would be up early again and head to Kalmus Park Beach for water skiing, swimming, and breakfast. Eggs, bacon and toast on the beach really tasted great! That evening we would head over to Wequaquet Lake for more water skiing, swimming, and hot dogs and burgers.
In the 60’s, Irma arranged for Cape Cod League Baseball Players to stay in our upstairs bedrooms. We would partition off the cellar and sleep down there. Every year she would get tickets for the family and we would go to Fenway Park on Cape Cod Day to watch the Red Sox play.
Irma is survived by Ronald of Virginia, Don of North Abington, Deborah (Debbie Dow) of Pocasset, and Paul of Colorado. She was predeceased by her son Bruce. She leaves behind nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren as well as many loved members of extended family and friends.
Private services will be held with burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery with her beloved husband Stuart. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her name may be made to the Fidelis Hospice 25 Railroad Sq. Suite 501, Haverhill, MA 01832.
