Obituaries
George Michael "Mike" Mansfield of Carver passed away after a brief illness on June 15, 2023, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston at the age of seventy-five. He leaves his cherished wife, Elizabeth "Beth" (McPhillips) Mansfield; beloved children Keri (Mansfield) O'Neil and her husband Tim, and Michael Mansfield and his wife Tracey; adored grandchildren, Shaun, Tyler, and Cailin; his sister, Marie King and her husband Charlie. He was the uncle to his loved and lovely late nieces, Erin, and Allison Darling. He leaves his loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
George was born on September 12, 1947, in Boston to his loving parents the late George and Marie (Cashman) Mansfield. He graduated from Quincy High School class of 1965. He honorably served our country in the United States Army as a Spec 4, serving in Korea on the DMZ. George worked for Local 550 in Boston as a fire protection sprinkler fitter and inspector. His hobbies included fishing, reading, canoeing, and tinkering. His favorite past times were hunting with his dad and taking walks with his Uncle Harold. George treasured his time spent with family, especially sharing all his interests with his children and grandchildren, and teaching his grandchildren about nature. He treasured his time with his wife while dancing, traveling, spending winters in Siesta Key for many years, and going for rides.
To know George was to love him. He was described as "the best man I ever met" He was the sunshine on a cloudy day, calming, gracious, funny, strong, soft, and gentle. He had a loving heart, was always smiling, protective of those he loved, and was the first to take care of others. There was no doubt of his unconditional love for his family by his mere presence.
