Ernest A Gillis
June 7, 1948 - January 22, 2016
Gillis, Ernest Angus, 67, of Carver, passed away on January 22, 2016 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary; his children and their spouses: Bryan and Keri, Jaime and Christopher, Marie and Brian, Erin and James, Michelle, Stephanie and her fianc Matthew; and his 7 grandchildren: Sydney, Kevin, Aubrey, James, Charlotte, Jessica and Elle. Ernest also leaves a brother Ralph J. Gillis, his wife Jane, and their children Moira and Ralph.
Ernest was born in Quincy, the son of Ralph and Elsie (Barrington) Gillis. Ernest was a federal administrative judge for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the National Appeals Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post 387 in Kingston and served as a submariner in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Visiting hours will be held at the Cartmell Funeral Home at 150 Court Street, Plymouth on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church on Court Street in Plymouth on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Plymouth County Cemetery, South Meadow Road in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ernest's memory may be made to: The American Legion Post 387 Scholarship Fund, 94 Main Street, Kingston, MA 02364.
