Erin Ann MacMillan Scampoli died on Thursday, September 22, 2022, surrounded by loving family, after a brief illness.
Erin was born on January 9, 1979, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, a daughter of Robert and Sheila MacMillan. She attended Plymouth elementary and middle schools and graduated from Plymouth North High School, where she excelled.
Though her life was far too brief, she lived it to its fullest. She found enormous happiness in simple things—a stuffed animal that she had for decades, a catchy country song (or the latest rap song from her son’s playlist), the bags of candy she constantly had by her side, or a day at the beach. She was kind, generous, playful, and smarter than she ever gave herself credit for. Her laugh was big, and bright, and contagious. Her heart was even bigger.
She made a career out of customer service, because that’s where her talents and passions were—helping others. Colleagues at the CVS pharmacy where she worked adored her, and customers regularly asked for her by name because they appreciated her warmth, genuine interest in their lives, and care for their wellbeing.
For Erin, motherhood was the greatest source of love and joy. As a mother, she was completely devoted to her son, Anthony. He was her light. His life was her life, and she never hesitated to proudly share his accomplishments with anyone who would listen. In her wallet, she kept every one of Anthony’s school IDs as well as every baby picture taken of him. In recent years, she had gotten in the habit of sending Anthony twice daily texts at 9:26 in the morning and 9:26 in the evening to celebrate what she considered the best day of her life—his birth on September 26. Anthony loved his mom dearly and was by her side through her final moments.
The youngest of eight children, Erin was a thoughtful, loving, and supportive sister. As the baby of the family, she got most of the attention. When her older siblings would take her for walks as a child, neighbors and other kids couldn’t help scooping her up and pinching her cheeks. Family gatherings weren’t complete without her laugh and funny stories. She loved all of her nieces and nephews and was always an eager babysitter.
In addition to her parents and son, Erin is survived by her husband, Anthony Scampoli; seven siblings: John, Tim, Maureen, Kelly, Scott, Brian, and Susan, all of Massachusetts; numerous nieces and nephews; and dozens of cousins and an aunt.
Erin made her life meaningful by loving large and being grateful for the things she had and the people closest to her. She was loved dearly and will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
