Obituaries
Ellen Garvey, 90, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, passed away July 6, 2023, peacefully with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Joseph and Gertrude Mead, November 18, 1932, in Buffalo, New York.Ellen graduated from Hamburg High School in Hamburg, New York and Buffalo State Teachers' College with an undergraduate degree in education. She continued her studies at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, where she completed her master's degree and went on to receive additional credits. Ellen was a lifelong learner.
Ellen began teaching in 1955 in Long Island, New York. She continued her teaching in the Bridgeport Public Schools' system for another 28 years. After retiring, Ellen worked at the Parents' Center in Bridgeport, for 18 years. She taught the GED and it gave her great joy to see her students pass the exam and follow their dreams.
She married James F. Garvey Jr. in 1958 and they raised their family in Trumbull Connecticut. Ellen is survived by her two daughters, Ann Kalous and her husband Paul from Plymouth, Massachusetts; and Carolyn Wood and her husband Craig of Narragansett, Rhode Island. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jimmy, CJ, Will, Chris, and Molly.
Ellen loved her family and friends. She had a thirst for knowledge and she loved learning from the books she read, the places she traveled to, and the people she met. Ellen was passionate about bridge, was an avid tennis and golf player, and enjoyed the theater. Ellen will always be known as a fashionista!
There will be a memorial mass on Monday, July 24th at 10:30 am at Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Avenue, Trumbull, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cranberry Hospice in Plymouth Massachusetts.
