Obituaries
Edward “Ed” W. Alusow, age 76, of Plymouth (Manomet), passed away on Thursday, December 22nd, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston. He was the devoted husband of Cheryl (Silvia) Alusow. Loving brother of Janet Bobar and her late husband Bob of Sierra Vista AZ and the late John Alusow and his wife Nancy. Uncle of Robert Bobar of Spokane WA, Stefanie Bobar and her husband Scott Machtley of Tempe AZ and John E. Alusow and his wife Stephanie of Somerville MA. As well as great uncle of Sylas Bobar. Ed also leaves behind his precious dog, Sycamore.
Born in Brockton MA, son of John Frank and Bertha (Williams) Alusow. Ed grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School. From there he attended Bridgewater State and later enlisted in the United States Navy. The Navy brought Ed to Guam during the Vietnam War era. From enlisted man to officer he moved up the rank being commissioned as Lieutenant. Ending his Navy career as Commander after 34 years of service. Ed commanded Reserve Units in St. Louis MO, Butte MT and Sacramento CA. He returned to Bridgewater State to finish his education, and later received his master’s degree in Geology studies from Missouri School of Mines.
Ed spent most of his years as a mining geologist, project geologist, for the Anaconda Copper Company in Butte MT, and Tonopah NV. Later in his career Ed went back to school for his hazardous waste management license, relocating to West Chicago IL and Schenectady NY. The last company he worked for brought him and Cheryl to Massachusetts and then retirement.
Ed loved sailing in his early years, together he and Cheryl could be found sailing off White Horse Beach. He was an avid rock collector with an extensive collection made possible from his years as a geologist. He was an active member of the Southeast Massachusetts Mineral Club which raised money to offer a scholarship to a Geology major at Bridgewater State, where the club held their meetings. Ed also found time to be a member of the Manomet Steering Committee, USO and of MOAA.
A visitation will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 619 State Rd. Plymouth (Manomet), on Thursday December 29th, from 3:00 pm till 6:00 pm. A service will take place the following day at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne, at 10:15 am. Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island NY 10306.
