Donald T. Smith, Jr. of Plymouth, MA died peacefully on June 14, 2023, with his family by his side. He is the beloved husband of Carol Sevchik Smith of Niagara Falls, NY. Don was born in Troy, NY on September 5, 1942, the son of Donald T. Smith, Sr. and Barbara Moore Smith.
Don received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Union College in 1965. He then went on to receive an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He began working for Corning Incorporated in 1967 and had a fulfilling career as a Planning Manager for 30 years.
On September 10, 1966, he married the love of his life Carol Sevchik. They raised three daughters in Big Flats, NY. Don loved everything about upstate New York, including his friends, the Bills, fishing, and visiting the many wineries. He was an organized collector of many things, enjoyed his sports cars and the race track, and loved to travel with his family. He was the kindest father, teaching love and compassion to all who surrounded him. His love of animals, especially cats, made everyone smile.
While Don had a fulfilling career, his family was his truest love. He is predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Anne (1969). Besides his loving wife, Carol, he is survived by his three daughters: Jennifer Smith Gallerani and husband Paul Gallerani (Plymouth, MA), Beth Smith and wife Joanne Svenningsen (Denver, CO), Laura Smith Steele and husband Adam Steele (Londonderry, NH). He was an amazing grandfather to his six grandchildren: Thomas and Meghan Gallerani, Andrew, Benjamin, Daniel, and Aria Steele.
Services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home.
Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Plymouth MA Fire Department, Cranberry Hospice, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
