David P. Dow, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 11, 2023, after a battle with cancer.
David was the beloved husband of Doris E. Hardy-Dow of Marshfield. He is survived by his devoted children; David P. Dow, Jr. and his partner Angie Shaw of Marblehead, Sharon M. Dow and her fiancé Scott Lemonde of Danvers, and Thomas P. Dow of Charlestown. He was the proud grandfather of Connor J. Dow (US Air Force) stationed in the UK, Cameron D. Dow and his partner Macayla Brock of Lynn, and Colin E. Dow (US Army) stationed in Germany. He was the brother of Joseph Dow and his wife Margaret of Winthrop. David will be missed by his beloved pal "Max" his Boston Terrier. He was the beloved son of the late Joe and Ruth Dow.
David started his career with the Carpenters Union in 1978 as a journeyperson carpenter with Carpenters Local Union #328 (formerly Local Union #218) in Boston, MA. In later years he became an Organizer and then Business Manager for the local. David was the first Executive-Secretary Treasurer of the New England Regional Council of Carpenters in Boston and worked as a Special Assistant to the General President of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. After working as the Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Somerville under the direction of Mayor Dorothy Kelly-Gay, David returned to the New England Regional Council of Carpenters working on Special Projects and was instrumental in the development of the Carpenters Center. David spent the final five years of his career as the Regional Manager for the Northeast MA Carpenters and retired in 2016. David also played a pivotal role in various political campaigns in MA and around the country.
David enjoyed family gatherings, watching Boston sports teams, and various auto shows. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing, skeet shooting, walking his pal "Max" and fast cars.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on June 19, 2023, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
