Burt "Pappy" Nelson, age 75, died on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Jordan Hospital following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Janet R. (Geist) Nelson. Born in Plymouth , MA on May 11, 1937, he was a son of the late Merrill S. and Dorris L. (Burt) Nelson. He was educated in the Plymouth School System and following his schooling entered the US Marine Corps where he proudly served his country from 1953 to 1959. For most of his life Mr. Nelson had worked as a self-employed painting contractor. He enjoyed taking trips to Foxwoods and doing woodworking. But most of all, Burt loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be fondly missed by the many hearts he touched. Besides leaving his wife of 54 years, Mr. Nelson was the loving father of Burt Merrill Nelson and his wife Sheila of Plymouth, Nyla C. LaBier and her husband William of Sanford, ME and Marc Nelson and his wife Donna of Carver. He was the beloved brother of Beverly C. Johnson of Carver and cherished grandfather of Joseph, Jamie, Jessica, Joshua, Marc, Nicole and Jack. Great-grandfather of Michael, Drew, Drake and Addison. Cremation will take place in Vine Hills Crematory, Plymouth. Donations in his memory may be made to the Jordan Hospital , 275 Sandwich St., Plymouth, MA 02360.
