Obituaries
Brent Lee Spurgin, age 74 years, of Plymouth, died Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Beth Israel – Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was the husband of Lisbeth “Liz” (Holloway) Spurgin, and the son of the late Harold S. and Veronica A. (Rotter) Spurgin. Born on March 9, 1946 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Brent was a United States Marine, serving forty years, and worked as a Military Aircraft Mechanic. He also served with the United States Air National Guard as an Aircraft Pneudraulic System Technician. He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox and University of Nebraska football. Brent was a marathon runner, motorcycle endurance racer and an active member of the Marine Corps American Legion. Brent was a key volunteer for the Plymouth area Toys for Tots. Brent and Liz had a love for folk and Irish music, and would often enjoy these bands while singing and dancing with friends in Plymouth.
Besides his loving wife Liz, he is survived by his children, Christine Reiner and her husband Troy of Spokane, WA and Scott Spurgin and his wife Chris of Lincoln, Nebraska, his stepchildren Dan Nahas and his wife Kate of Charlottesville, VA and Ali Shanahan and her husband Andrew of Plymouth, and his grandchildren, Liam, Gavin, Kagan, Bobby and Eli. He was the brother of Jeanne Franklin and her husband Jeanne of Council Bluffs, Iowa and the late Val Davis.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of Brent’s life will be held at a later date. Private military ceremony will be held at the National Cemetery of Massachusetts in Bourne on January 13, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Toys for Tots (Plymouth).
