Betty Frances Alden (Holmes) Garuti died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on October 6 th at the age of 103. She was the beloved wife of the late Mario Arthur Garuti. Born in Plymouth on August 28, 1919 daughter of the late Irwin Webster and Grace Ellis Holmes. She was educated in Plymouth and was a member of the first class to graduate from the then new Plymouth High School which is now known as Nathaniel Morton Elementary School. After high school Betty worked for the Buttner Company in downtown Plymouth.
Betty married the love of her life, Mario, in 1942. Being the wife of a career Air Force officer, she moved with him from one assignment to the next finding herself in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Illinois twice, Florida, Virginia twice and even Germany before reaching there last posting to Ohio.
Betty was a life-long summer resident of Billington Sea making it year-round when she moved home in 1976. She purchased her father’s cranberry bog from her brother Webster and became a cranberry grower. She enjoyed canoeing, bird watching, genealogy and time spent with her family.
Betty is survived by her children sons Philip Garuti and his wife Kathleen of Plymouth, David Garuti of Plymouth, daughter Betty Osmer of Murphy, CA. and the late Steven Garuti.
She is the grandmother of Grace Clark, Chloe Osmer, Jennifer Garuti, Claire Sharifi, Karen Dunham, David Garuti, Brian Garuti and Brianna Garuti. Great grandmother of Vittoria Clark, Sanders Clark, Jarrett LaRochelle Jr., Nora Sharifi, Max McBride and Bryson Mujica-Garuti.
Funeral Service on Thursday October 13th at 11:00 am at the Cartmell-Davis Life celebration Funeral home 150 Court St., Plymouth (Downtown). Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Cranberry Hospice 36 Cordage Park Circle Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
