Gilchrist, of Carver, Alexander, age 61, died on Jan.26, 2006 at his home, He was the devoted husband of Marilyn F. (Cirone) Gilchrist of Carver and loving father of Elizabeth M. Gilchrist of New York City, NY and Robert A. Gilchrist of Somerville, MA. He was the beloved son of Alexander R. and Harriett A. (McLean) Gilchrist of Oxford, MA and cherished brother of Christina St. Martin of Oxford, MA and the late Grant M. Gilchrist. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a Vietnam veteran of the US Marine Corps and Purple Heart Recipient. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, 2006 at the Church of the Pilgrimage, Town Square, Plymouth, MA at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 12:30 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Cranberry Hospice, Inc., 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360. He was a graduate Oxford High School in Oxford ,MA and attended Northeastern University, Boston and the University of Massachusetts where he received his Bachelor’s of Arts in History. He entered the US Marine Corps in August of 1965 and was honorably discharged as Corporal in August of 1968. For most of his life, Mr. Gilchrist worked for the Department of Employment and Training as a Manager working mostly in the South Shore, Cape and Islands offices. He moved to Carver in 1976, previously residing in Marshfield, for five years. He enjoyed golf as one of his favorite hobbies, as well as working in his gardens.
